What should I expect from the first visit?  

Upon reaching out to Dr. Katie, she will return your call and spend time discussing your current symptoms and goals for treatment. Should you decide to schedule an appointment, Dr. Katie will schedule you for a 60 or 90 minute initial evaluation. Spouses, partners, family members, and other significant people in your life are welcome to join for all or part of the first visit. After the initial evaluation, additional treatment visits will be scheduled for either a 25 minute appointment or a 45 minute appointment. Patients who are pregnant should anticipate being seen at least monthly during their pregnancy and the first year postpartum. Patients must be seen at least every 3 months to remain active in the practice.


Do you offer therapy?

Yes, Dr. Katie offers individual psychotherapy. She does not offer couples or family therapy at this time. She has extensive training in CBT for anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, depression, and eating disorders including bulimia and binge-eating disorder. She also has trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy and mentalization-based therapy.  


Do you accept insurance?

Dr. Unverferth does not accept insurance and is not a member of any insurance panels. A superbill, which can be submitted to insurance companies for reimbursement, is made available via the online patient portal. Reimbursement rates can range from 0% to 100% - you should call your insurance to figure out what your individual reimbursement would be.

During your initial phone consultation, Dr. Katie will discuss rates with you.

Payment is due at the end of each session and can be made by cash or credit card.

On a case by case basis, Dr. Unverferth also offers house calls.


What is your cancellation policy?

Appointments can be cancelled or rescheduled two full days before the start of your appointment time. For example, an 8am appointment on Tuesday must be changed by 7:59am on Sunday.

Appointments cancelled or changed for any reason within two full days before the appointment time for will be billed for the full amount of the session.
